Drew Doughty talks Jake Muzzin and Rob Scuderi

March 11, 2013 By John Hoven

Drew Doughty post-game comments…

– On the communication between him and Muzzin: “It’s getting there. In the defensive end we still have some of our differences, but offensively we’re doing well together. So we just have to keep working on that defensive game, and we’ll be a good pair together.”

– On when he communicates most with Muzzin: “Mostly during the game. Our coaches have video with him every day. So they can talk to him during that. I don’t have to keep nagging on him…I just try to tell him some little things on the ice, in the dressing room, or wherever it might be, and I’m glad to try and help him.”

– On if being of similar age help with the communication: “I don’t know if that really is anything. I think, I have a little more experience in the league, so the coaches kind of want me to use that even though he’s older than me….I’ve learned a lot of things from older guys in my few years here, and I need to carry those over and teach them some things too.”

– On the communication with Scuderi, with the major age difference:  “To be honest, me and Scuds; we talk the same language. Or the language is pretty much, ‘I’ll give you the puck and stay back, and you do your thing.’ So that was me and Scuds’ talk.”

– On maybe the problem with him and Jake being Muzzin likes the puck too: “Exactly (laughter)…No, I think our offensive game has been good together. Obviously I’m usually getting that puck at the blue line, but since he can make plays now, maybe that’ll open up a little more space for me that maybe I haven’t had in the last few seasons. I’m looking forward to that.”

– On what he’s expecting from Phoenix tomorrow: “I’m still expecting them to come out hard. They’re a good team, they always play us hard. They’re hard on the forecheck, they bang bodies, and it’s never fun to go into their building and play. So, tomorrows’ game is going to be a rough one, but we gotta come out with a win. That’s all we can really say.”

All the space in the world means nothing if you don’t already know what to do with it. When you have open ice make up your mind and execute quicker.
