Comments from Canucks locker room after 1-0 win in LA

March 23, 2013 By John Hoven

Following their 1-0 win over the Kings on Saturday afternoon, here’s what was being said back in the Canucks’ locker room…

– Coach Alain Vigneault on Cory Schneider: “He was excellent tonight. He made the key saves at the right time. There weren’t a lot of shots from the opposition. Cory would be the first to credit the players in front of him for playing the type of road game we have to be playing which is on the right side of the puck. You have to chip it in and chip it out and frustrate the opposition. When they do make a mistake you have to try to capitalize on it. They didn’t make a lot of mistake but we were able to capitalize on one and they weren’t able to capitalize on any of ours.”

– Cory Schneider on the overall game : “It was a great all around effort from everyone. Everyone chipped in in some way, whether it was a blocked shot, box out or getting the puck out or a back check. At times when they did have opportunities, we were able to buy time and get back or get in the line and block it. I had to make some saves but overall I thought it was a great defensive effort on our part.”

– Schneider on playing the Kings: “It was one of the harder 20 save efforts I’ve had.. I have made 40 saves and not worked as hard as that. They crash the net, they screen, they throw pucks at the net. It makes life hard. They have some big bodies down there. I think our defenseman did a good job handling them down low and not giving them too much time in space. Our forwards came down and helped and cleared rebounds.”

– Mayson Raymond on his goal: “It was a great look by Schroeder. He even threaded it through the guy’s triangle. When his stick was down there I even called the triangle anyway. We were able to capitalize on that. We didn’t have a lot of shots; it was a close game. Heck of a game by Schneider. He made a lot of big saves. We played well defensively for the most part down to the final period. We definitely have to have more than 13 shots.”
