Post-game comments from the Red Wings locker room following their 2-1 loss to the Kings on Wednesday night…
– Henrik Zetterberg on the overall game: “This was a tough one. We played really well in the first period. We had really good penalty killing in the second. And then the third was pretty even. Unfortunately they got two goals. It’s not often you win if you only score one goal. We had opportunities. The power play we did a lot of good things. The puck didn’t go in tonight. If we had one or two there it would have been a lot easier.”
– Jimmy Howard on the overall game: “We were playing a great road game there. We were just grinding it out and making smart plays. We did a great job in the second on the penalty kill. Doesn’t matter who you play, you can’t be giving up three 5-on-3’s. We shot ourselves in the foot. Next thing you know they got two goals.”
– Howard on Anze Kopiar’s goal: “He’s a great player; he’s one of the top skilled players in the NHL. He made a great play there. He had all the time in the world and he made us pay….He came from my blind side there. I don’t know exactly how he got so wide open. I went to yell for someone to pick him up and I realized there was no one around him. And then he made us pay.”
Coach Mike Babcock on the overall game: “I thought we did a lot of good things. We had momentum in the first period because of our power play. We played well; we were quicker than them. I thought they got momentum in the second period when they got the 5-on-3 and we did a good job killing it. In the third period we really carried the play early then they got the 5-on-3 again. What I don’t like about that third period for us is there should have been a penalty called on Dan Cleary [ed. note: see video of the play above] and Brendan Smith. I don’t mind the penalties we took, because we took them. But those can’t be missed either.”
If Babcock didn’t like the game, wonder what he thinks of Darryl Sutter saying he wanted to ‘kick his ass’?

…LA just recently won their first Stanley Cup. What took so long?
…45 years isn’t that long, come on.
Is Babcock really crying about the clearly hit? Who should have gotten two, his visor? And instead of making excuses he should be applying some fertilizer to Smith’s balls. I could have taken that hit without tumbling like he did; the way he fell I would have expected to see Kesler on the back of his jersey.
And for all his hurting, he missed like half a shift… You can’t just throw fertilizer on an barren field and expect something to grow, the man has no seeds!
So im trying to find where the whining is in those comments? It sounded like they were more disappointed about losing the game from the examples you give. Babcock is doing what a coach does. Hes trying to make a case for future games for boarder line calls. It is nice to see it ONLY TOOK 3 5 on 3 for the kings to finally capitalize on one of em. And i can say it was a nice play how they scored.
Ziggy how is that even a serious response to this article? You have to be pretty butt hurt to just blurt that out.
My honest and unbiased question is, what is the penalty that should have been called against Muzzin? Not a high stick, not an elbow. It was a shoulder to shoulder hit.
A little bit whiney, I agree. They just seemed embarrassed about so many 5-on-3’s against them. Clearly a Clean hit on Cleary……. say that 10 times fast…… 🙂
P.S. Sutter kicked you @ss Babcock …….Deal with it. 🙂 Have a Nice Day 🙂
The Red Wings have NOTHING to whine about really! The Kings have NOT had a very good season so far and they were certainly due to finally put a win streak together and I for one hope it continues!! If anything, the Kings should have put several more scores on the board but after losing quite a few close games this season, it’s just good to see them finally winning close games! It’s also good to see Bernier finally winning close games with more consistency as well. He’s making the most of Quick’s shaky season so far, I hope to see that continue!
In your career, have you seriously heard so much complaining and excusing and finger pointing from PROS? It’s a little ridiculous. My God, suck it up and admit defeat. The Kings managed to best you; boo frickin hoo, no one really cares.
And BTW, the hit Muzzin laid on Cleary was so clean, it was damn near shiny
