Fill In the Blank: Game 16 – Kings down the Avalanche

February 25, 2013 By John Hoven

Carter Kings MayorsManorIt’s time for more input from the readers.

Prior to Saturday afternoon’s match-up between the Kings and Avalanche, LA coach Darryl Sutter said he thought his team plays just fine while the sun is still out – despite a history over the last few years that suggested otherwise. Well, once again, he was right. Not only did the Kings win, but they came out firing from the moment they hit the ice. Dustin Brown scored in the opening minute and Jeff Carter added another goal later in the first period. Perhaps the only player as productive as Carter at the moment is Trevor Lewis, and he scored while the Kings were shorthanded in the second period. Later, Anze Kopitar capped off the Kings offense with a goal assisted by Dustin Penner and Dwight King.

Because it was the weekend, we gave people all day yesterday to complete the following:

‘The most impressive thing about the Kings win over the Avs was________.’ (FILL IN THE BLANK)

Now, after scanning the feedback provided on twitter and facebook, here are the ten best answers…

@GrowingUpHockey – Well of course it was the assist off the butt.

@kevinyoung90 – Finally scoring two goals in the first period.

@kinghawkranger – Huge, massive advantage in scoring chances and the way the Kings D collapsed in front of their own net.

@jjoefuji – Quick looking like his old self.

@dslakoff – Lewis being a point-producing machine consistently

Ben L. – Colorado’s inability to adjust to cover the slot the entire game.

Jerry A. – The goal after the Avs scored to return the 2 goal lead. Great momentum stealer!

David N. – Jeff Carter’s continued great play and showing why he is one of the best finishers in the league.

Toby H. – They seem to be playing lower in the offensive zone and it’s generating a lot of chances for the snipers (Carter, Kopitar, Et al.), particularly as they descend towards the goal in the high slot.

Teri N. – WINNING three games in a row!

And one bonus entry:

@EvaMarieAlonzo – They did it in Broad Daylight.
