So, you’ve watched the videos we’ve been posting of Anze Kopitar playing over in Sweden the last few weeks. And you’ve seen the photos of Alec Martinez in a Finnish hockey jersey. On top of that, you’ve also listened intently to the MayorsManor radio show to hear what guys like Colin Fraser and Kevin Westgarth have been up to during the NHL lockout…but you still want more, huh?
Well, how about video of Kings’ captain Dustin Brown working out?
Long-time readers are probably familiar with Dr. Chad Moreau. He’s been on our site a number of times and has even shared some fascinating stories about his time as the Strength and Conditioning coach for the Edmonton Oilers. More recently though, he’s been training a myriad of NHL players (including Jarret Stoll and Anaheim’s Sheldon Souray) from his facility here in Southern California and he runs the HockeyOT website – where players of all ages can get valuable training information.
Before we get to the actual workout, here’s a quick intro from Brown first…
Now, for a glimpse into the training of an elite NHL athlete…
During one sequence there, Brown was using 30-lb dumbbell in one hand and a 15-lb dumbbell in the other to create an ‘asymmetrical load through his trunk,’ according to Moreau. Also, that hammer Brown was swinging weighs about 12 lbs. For more fun facts and some specific information about Brown’s training, simply visit HockeyOT.
If you missed it a few weeks ago, we also had an exclusive interview with the Kings captain, where he talked about the possibility of going over to Europe if the lockout drags on.
Finally, if that name Moreau has you scratching your head – like you may have heard it somewhere once before – yes, Chad is the brother of former NHL player Ethan Moreau. Earlier this summer we had the exclusive story on what really went down behind the scenes between the Kings and Ethan, and what ultimately led to his departure from the team and eventually retirement. It’s well worth your time to check it out. There’s lots of interesting info in there.
