Over the last few days we’ve kept you updated on Alec Martinez‘ first week of action over in Finland. Through Friday, the 25-year old Kings defenseman had played in three games for TPS Turku and was averaging a team-high 24:45 in ice time per game. He’s also been credited with eight shots on goal but has yet to record his first point.
Martinez and TPS are scheduled for another game today – their second set of back-to-back games this week – in a re-match with Lokke, who they also played yesterday. One side note to the storyline, former Kings prospect Justin Azevedo has been suspended from today’s game after receiving a major penalty for physical contact yesterday. Technically, Azevedo is still Kings property, as he’s a restricted free agent. The 5-foot-7 center was originally selected in the sixth round of the 2008 draft, yet it’s highly unlikely you’ll ever see him in a Kings jersey.
On to the highlights…
Keep an eye out for Martinez wearing jersey number-4. And if you’re wondering why one guy on the team is wearing a gold helmet, that’s something special the team’s leading goal scorer gets to wear. Interesting.
Friday, October 12 – TPS def Lukko 4-2
Wednesday, October 10 – TPS lost 4-0 (There is some footage of Martinez included though.)
Tuesday, October 9 – TPS won 2-1 via a shootout (Here’s a quick clip showcasing one of the opposing players for JYP. His goal celebration is awfully reminiscent of the one Corey Perry did a few years ago after scoring a game-winning goal vs the Kings at Staples Center.)

Also, we did a big interview with him from his home in Dallas, just before he left for Europe. You can find that feature piece here.
