Kings defenseman Willie Mitchell has given us so many awesome interviews over the last two seasons that it’s almost not right to call out just one specific line or moment. However, we broke the news to you about a month before it happened that he would be signing a contract extension to stay in LA. At the time, he talked about believing this group of players had the ability to do something special. Then, in early April, he passionately told us about wanting his day with the Stanley Cup.
And anybody who’s ever talked to Mitchell knows he’s never met a conversation he didn’t like. The man loves to talk – it’s even something several of his teammates have come on MayorsManor and joked about all season. That being said, for as much as we love listening to him, it was that single statement about wanting his day with the Cup that seemed omnipresent throughout the playoffs.
After the parade this afternoon, nearly three days later, you could still feel the emotion when I asked him about it…
For a funny Mitchell-related flashback, here is Drew Doughty just a few hours after signing his new contract.
