Kings Pass Felix Potvin, Barry Potomski in 3-2 Win

December 3, 2010 By John Hoven

Losing sucks. Winning is fun.

In honor of those simple facts, let’s look back at last night’s Kings’ win over the visiting Florida Panthers with a little humor and wit – or at least attempt some.

You should have known you were in for a good time though just by reading the headline. Any article featuring past players like Barry Potomski has to be fun, right?

On twitter the game was summed up like this by the LAKingsAlumni account:

‘PP? 0 goal Stoll! 1-0 weird bounce! 1-1 outplayed em & poof down 2-1 TMMOTI! 2X!? Nice screen Clifford goal Harrold! 2-2 pk41√ Kopi GWG!!!’

If you’re looking for something that may be a little easier to understand. Try this stream…

@FoxSportsWest @LAKings vs. Panthers coming up next at 7:30p…flip that switch & catch special guest Rob Blake who joins the broadcast crew!

[ed. note – wait, what?]

@DavesDime Here at Staples, quite ready for a Los Angeles Kings victory! Go Kings! #LAKings

@FlaPanthers End of one period with the Panthers and Kings tied at one. Cats hold a 10-7 shot advantage.

@LAKingsGM I don’t like that Zeiler is playing center over Richie. Zeiler isn’t moving his feet and is holding guys. Penalty soon. #LAKings #Panthers

@ViewFromMySeats I hate hockey (in response to FL taking 2-1 lead)

@kingscast Peter Harrold for Norris. 2-2 #LAKings

@ViewFromMySeats I like hockey again (in response to Kings tying it up)

@helenenothelen First NHL point for Clifford on the assist on Harrold’s goal…

@Crief IMO, best player on the ice tonight for the #LAKings has been Kyle Clifford – again

@LAKings #LAKings with a BIG tally to make it 3-2 with 2:43 left in the game. Goal scored by Kopitar (9th). Brown with the single assist.

They hold on to win 3-2, which led to comments like these on twitter:

@DennisTFP Confidence builder for @LAKings for certain, but a much better effort needed Saturday vs #RedWings

[ed. note – agreed]

@Connie_Kim THANK GOD. #LAKings win.

[ed. note – ditto]

@theroyalhalf Just finished watching the game. Let me be the first to welcome Drew Doughty to the 2010-2011 NHL season.

@LAKings #LAKings have now killed 41-of-41 penalties at home this season. It’s OK to say that, right? This isn’t a no-hitter.

[ed. note – that’s right, they passed Felix Potvin (39) and Barry Potomski (40) last night to end things on Jason Allison (41)…next up, they’ll aim to pass Mikko Eloranta (42), Vitali Yachmenev (43), John McIntyre (44)…and maybe even Sandy Moger (45) on Saturday night]

Others chimed in with things like…

@cravingworthy GO KINGS! Finally got a win to break that losing streak. 🙂

@patmanwb #lakings win!! Great job @dustinbrown back to taking the body hard! Go Kings Go!

@bfredrik Thanks for the win Kings. I appreciate it after not going to a game in 3 years. I have missed you!

@kevinsyoung Interesting note: #LAKings and #Panthers are the only two #NHL teams without an OT loss on the year. Fitting the game was decided in 60 mins.

Five other stats that probably weren’t reported on twitter…

* That was the Kings sixth consecutive victory over Florida.

* The Kings are a perfect 4-0 against the Southeast division this year. They’ll go for the sweep on February 12th when they take on the Capitals in Washington.

* Jonathan Quick has allowed zero (TB), one (ATL) and two goals (FL) in the Southeast games he’s started.  Jonathan Bernier allowed three when he faced Carolina.  Whichever goalie starts in Washington should be prepared to give up four goals.  It’s just bound to end up that way.

* Justin Williams and Jarret Stoll are the only two players to have points in all games versus the Southeast this season.

* The team is now 3-2 this season against opponents with four-legged animals as part of their team name/theme. Wins against the Panthers, Predators and Bruins…Losses against the Coyotes and Sabres.

Wow – what a useless stat.

That’s enough fun for now.
