Another former Kings, Monarchs player signs in Europe

Several weeks back, Los Angeles Kings GM Dean Lombardi was visibly irritated when talking about a few of the team’s prospects signing in Europe this summer.
Gone from the pipeline are center Corey Elkins, left wing Bud Holloway and forward Oscar Moller.
Today brings news that John Zeiler has joined the ‘other side of the […]

Forbort, Shore stay – Gravel, Mersch cut at USA WJC camp

The Los Angeles Kings were privileged enough to have four prospects attend this year’s Team USA World Junior Championship evaluation camp.
That’s quite the step up from the quality and depth they’ve had in recent years with American-born prospects.
Unfortunately, today was cut down day and only half of the crop will be staying.
Defenseman Kevin Gravel (a […]

More camping for Kings’ Forbort, Gravel, Mersch and Shore

How did this happen?
Over the last ten years, the Los Angeles Kings have had only two pure prospects represent Team USA at the World Junior Championships – defenseman Derek Forbort (last January) and forward Trevor Lewis (2007).
Yes, Dustin Brown played for the U.S. in 2002 and 2003. However, he hadn’t been drafted by the […]

Windsor’s Jeff Brown on the ‘other side’ of dev camp

For every Tyler Toffoli at the Kings recent Development camp you had a Rob Mignardi. For every Jake Muzzin there was an Alex Roach. And for every Martin Jones there was some European goalie who had everybody asking ‘How do you spell his name?’
The point being – camp rosters […]

Kings prospect JF Berube probably seeking new nickname

Since being drafted by the Los Angeles Kings in the fourth round of the 2009 NHL Draft, goaltender JF Berube has seen his stock quietly rise.
This past season he posted some of the best numbers in the entire Quebec junior league – including 32 wins, a 2.60 goals-against average and a .902 save percentage. […]

Linden Vey was drafted by the Kings in the fourth round of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, coming off a season in which he scored 24 goals and 48 assists for the Medicine Hat Tigers in the WHL.
There’s nothing wrong with those numbers. They just don’t scream […]

Muzzin at Kings camp – ‘Hey Jake, what’s up with that hair?’

On Friday we heard from LA Kings head coach Terry Murray, who shared some of his concerns with prospect Jake Muzzin’s development in Manchester last year – although, overall, he said Muzzin has “definitely come a long way.”
The 22-year old defenseman also stopped by MayorsManor to joke about […]

Goalie Chris Gibson – camp quotes and coaches evaluation

When the Los Angeles Kings used their first selection at the recent NHL Draft to take a goaltender – well, it caught some people off guard.
Sure, everybody’s heard the mantra ‘take the best player available.’
However, the team will most likely have five goaltenders under the age of 26 playing […]

LA Kings coaches heaping praise at goalie Martin Jones

Martin Jones (photo: Kasey Spatz)

You never quite know what you’re going to get with a prospect.
Young forwards usually need to learn the defensive side of the game before being NHL ready. Defensemen tend to mature around the age of 24. Goalies, historically, take a little longer.
As is the case with LA’s two Jonathans, Quick and […]
