It was an eventful weekend in Bakersfield. What began with an almnni game featuring more than a dozen Kings and Oilers Smythe Division stars, coached by Wayne Gretzky and Luc Robitaille, ended with a rain-filled AHL Outdoor Classic. Local fans went home happy, though, as the Condors came back late in regulation to tie things up and eventually win in overtime.
Reign forward Brett Sutter notched his 110th professional goal in his 700th professional game to open the scoring late in the first period. Defenseman Zac Leslie and first-year forward Mike Amadio picked up the assists. Justin Auger added to the lead early in the second frame with a snapshot over the glove of Condors goaltender Laurent Brossoit.
From there, it was all Condors, as they picked up a goal from defenseman Mark Fayne just 1:21 into the third and then forward Josh Currie buried the game-tying tally at 17:43. Defenseman Griffin Reinhart, Edmonton’s first round pick at the 2012 NHL Draft, finished off the comeback with a game-winning goal 46 seconds into overtime.
Take a look at the highlights below, including some of the craziest footage you’ll ever see during the second period.
