Anze Kopitar talks Marian Gaborik after 2-1 Kings win

Thursday night’s Kings v Caps match-up certainly had moments of excitement on the ice, with LA coming out on top 2-1 in a shootout – off the stick of their newest forward, Marian Gaborik. Back in the locker room, the fireworks continued with Dustin Brown and Dustin Penner sharing a few memorable quotes with MayorsManor. They weren’t the only ones talking though. Here’s what Anze Kopitar had to say…

On if some of Marian Gaborik’s passes catch him off guard:

“I don’t know. Not catch me off guard, but sometimes the puck is bouncing a little bit. I am anticipating those plays, and he’s been making them. I guess I do have to get used to that a little bit more, but I think we’re on the right track.”

On how Gaborik is fitting in with the team:

“He’s been pretty open to everything. If you come in, I think you figure out in a hurry that we’re a pretty tight group. I think he fit in really well. I think it helped out that we were on the road for a couple of games, so everybody got to hang out with him a little bit more than we would if we were here. With all the shenanigans he has going on, with finding a house and everything, that takes up time. Fortunatel,y we were on the road for five days. We had a couple of days in Edmonton – it’s not the ideal, but you really connect. You talk to him, you figure it out on the fly. Again, I think he’s come in and fit in really well.”

On if Gaborik has payed for any dinners:

“He’s picked up a couple of dinners, yeah. Can’t give it to him about that. (laughter)”

On Gaborik’s speed:

“Before, when it was touch icing, we could do that kind of play a lot more. Now, when he’s kind of parallel to the guy, with his speed, you can just chuck it up the ice and you know he’s going to get there.”

Dustin Brown post-game quotes – including his chirp for Dustin Penner – posted here.
