Avs captain Gabriel Landeskog talks hit by Kings’ Willie Mitchell

With the game scoreless on Saturday night, Willie Mitchell put a hard hit on Avs captain Gabriel Landeskog in overtime (see video above). Moments later Colorado scored to take a 1-0 win. But, back in the locker room, Landeskog was first talking up LA’s veteran defenseman.

“I was trying to get a shot off, but I had to hold him off with my left hand,” said the young forward. “I was trying hard to get a shot off but he’s a strong man so he showed me.”

On how the Avalanche is continuously playing well:

“That’s what we’re trying to do. We’re just trying to keep it going. People are wondering when we’re really going to hit a rough patch, but I think we keep believing in ourselves and keep doing what we’re doing. Like I said, we keep facing big tests- Phoenix and LA- those are two tough places to take points in itself. To steal two in overtime, both of them, that’s big for us. Keep growing as a team. ”

On being captain:

“It’s fun. I’m just riding along, I’m just having fun. Just riding along, like I said. Just trying to do my part. We are having a lot of fun. It was nice to get this one.”
