This afternoon, the couple dozen Kings prospects in town for Development Camp were scheduled to skip the afternoon ‘group’ session at TSC. Although each discipline – forwards, defensemen, goalies – still did their individual sessions in the morning as planned, everybody was given a special treat in the afternoon.
And if you’re a regular MayorsMaanor reader, it should come as no surprise that Andy Andreoff was more than thrilled to hear about it.
“Absolutely,” he said with an ear-to-ear smile, one so wide it probably hurt his face. “We’re having a beach day, that’s MY day! I’m looking forward to it more than anything.”
Of course he is.
The Golden Greek can often be found tanning over at the hotel when he’s not on the ice.
Plus, somewhere nearby you can usually find Kings rookie Tyler Toffoli.
“Yeah, I think he’s gotten a good base the last couple of days,” Toffoli said of Andreoff’s current skin color. “When we’ve had a little break for lunch time, he’s been laying out. I’ve been trying to keep up with him too.”
Truth be told, that’s a tall order for Toffoli. A few of his teammates have referred to him as ‘pasty’ in the past… and it was Jake Muzzin who once said he was worried about the kid burning to a crisp.
But, Toffoli is a gamer. He continues to try and hang with the big dog, Andreoff, in this very ‘LA race.’
Meanwhile, he also scoffs at the potential newcomer to the discussion.
Zac Leslie, a Kings 2013 draftee, who trains with Toffoli in Ottawa during the summer, indicated to MayorsManor last week that he may have to join the tanning party when he’s in LA for DevCamp.
It was a notion that Toffoli quickly shot down over the weekend. So, we asked for an update at the mid-point of camp.
“I haven’t seen him at the pool the last couple days,” said Toffoli. “So, he’s not really doing a good job. He’s not really soaking up the LA sun.”
Perhaps Leslie made a better accounting of himself at the beach today.
Back on the ice , Andreoff continues to work on his game while keeping an eye on Training Camp coming up in September.
“I’m just doing my thing, working hard every day,” he told MayorsManor. “It’s my third camp, so I’m a little more comfortable than the past two years. I feel a lot better, I’ve been improving on everything and working on my game, taking advantage of the development coaches – Nelly, Clarky, and the new skating coach has been helping me a lot too.”
Tomorrow we’ll get into some of the specific areas he’s been working on… and a few of his teammates will shed some light on just how tough Andreoff really is.
