For once, Drew Doughty’s teammates come to his rescue

Doughty Kings playoffs 2013 MayorsManor
Earlier this week, Sharks forward Logan Couture took some good-natured shots at his friend Drew Doughty.

It wasn’t that surprising either, considering he’s often the butt of jokes by roommate Trevor Lewis, former defensive partner Willie Mitchell and several other teammates. And, Couture was referencing Doughty’s supposed love of the Toronto Blue Jays – something we tested last year (and he failed, click here to see).

However, we decided to check in with some of Doughty’s buddies to see what they thought of Couture’s claim that he probably couldn’t name more than seven players on this year’s Jays team.

Much to the surprise of MayorsManor, they actually came to his defense – perhaps for the first time ever.

“Drew’s actually pretty passionate about the Jays,” said Matt Greene, a known Dodger fan. “There’s not a lot that he does really check on, but we talk baseball and it seems like he keeps up with them.”

And the number of players he can name?

“I’ll go over,” Greene confidently stated. “I think he could name more.”

Colin Fraser, an admitted bandwagoner when it comes to the Jays, agreed with Greene’s assessment.

“I like Dewey, I’d give him the over.”

Two-for-two.

Could we get the baseball hat trick?

Without knowing what the two guys above said, Kings captain Dustin Brown added, “I would take the over on that.”

How could that be? Brown seems to never give Doughty credit for much of anything.

“I think he’s a Jays fan, it just sucks being a Jays fan, right?” he added.

Well, he does have a point there.

So, now it’s up to Doughty.

And we’ll put him to the test soon.

Can he name more than seven players on the current Jays roster?

Stay tuned.
