Word Association: Kings players share thoughts on Predators

word association - Nashville PredatorsOver the weekend we posted multiple Word Association articles regarding the Vancouver Canucks.  First was the usual pre-game article with several Kings players (including Dustin Brown, Alec Martinez and Justin Williams).  We may have even found out more than we bargained for during that round – especially about Roberto Luonogo.

Then, later in the afternoon, coach Darryl Sutter made his Word Association debut.  Also included in that article were broadcasters Bob Miller and Nick Nickson.  If you missed either of those stories, click here to take a look.

Now, as part of our coverage in advance of tonight’s game, we asked a few guys  to play some Word Association using the names of five Nashville players. Like usual, this was all done one-on-one, so nobody heard what the other guy said – which is always interesting when you compare their answers…

– On Mike Fisher:

Drew Doughty – Carrie Underwood
Jim Fox – Country music
Jake Muzzin – Carrie Underwood
Dustin Penner – Underwood

– On Paul Gaustad:

Doughty – Good on the draws
Fox – A lot to prove, was traded for a first round pick
Muzzin – He’s big
Penner – Good on faceoffs

– On Scott Hannan:

Doughty – Meat and potatoes defenseman
Fox – Safety valve support
Muzzin – Defenseman
Penner – Slept on my couch

– On Pekka Rinne:

Doughty – Big and solid in net
Fox – Does it all
Muzzin – Good, he’s very good
Penner – Drew a short straw in the name department

– On Shea Weber:

Doughty – Heavy shot, it sucks blocking it
Fox – Control and dominance
Muzzin – Shot
Penner – Permanent beard

Kings captain Dustin Brown didn’t get a chance to play Word Association this time around, but he still shared some thoughts on the Predators…

“From top to bottom, first line to fourth line, they all play the same way,” he said. “Regardless of the skill set, they’ve found a way to be successful for pretty much 10 years now. With a team that doesn’t have a so-called ‘superstar,’ maybe with the exception of Rinne and Weber, they find a way to get it done…I think they have a sit back mentality, and they protect the net really well. We have to find ways to get to the net, get pucks there with bodies at the same time. I think right now, or in games past, we’ve got pucks there without bodies, and we’ve gotten bodies there without pucks.”
