MayorsManor Live Radio – Kings at Flames preview with Kelly Hrudey

Hrudey Kelly HNIC
At first glance, you might wonder why a guy who played for the New York Islanders, LA Kings and San Jose Sharks was asked to help preview a game vs. the Calgary Flames.  But after listening, you’ll understand.

Kelly Hrudey, who now works for Hockey Night in Canada on both TV and radio, has an exceptional knowledge of the game and brings a unique perspective as a former goaltender.  Put simply, he sometimes sees things that others wouldn’t normally notice.

He’s been on MayorsManor a number of times through the years and besides his generally humorous nature, his candid answers are what make him such a great guest.  And he didn’t disappoint today, especially when it came to his former coach, Darryl Sutter.  Hrudey speaks openly and honestly about what it was like playing for Sutter during his time in San Jose.

Among the other topics we touch on include – what it meant to Hrudey to watch the Kings win the Stanley Cup (and it was quite different than what Mattias Norstrom and Ian Laperriere said earlier this week),  junior hockey in Western Canada, Sutterisms, what most goalies have been lacking coming out of the lockout this season, his experience playing after a work stoppage, his favorite defensemen in the NHL today and Jonathan Bernier’s new mask design.

Plus, the million dollar question, does he have a copy of Hrudey on Duty?

Enjoy the show…

I’m a little late with this comment (just got time to listen), but that was awesome! I remember this era so well. When our daughter three or so, she dressed up as “Kelly Hrudey” for Halloween one of these years. It was so awesome!! He still has a special place in her heart!
