VIDEO: Drew Doughty talks Blue Jays and opening of Kings camp

There are two things that LA Kings defenseman Drew Doughty loves to talk about – his hometown of London, Ontario and the Toronto Blue Jays.

After buying some hats for some of his teammates last season Doughty even came on MayorsManor to answer some trivia questions about the Jays. You can watch for yourself and see how he did.

Now, as training camp gets underway for the 2013 NHL season, Doughty seems to be taking a new approach to his baseball talk.

“The off-season trades have been huge!” he said about his beloved Jays. “I’m really looking forward to the season. You know I’m hoping – well, most seasons they start off hot and I start chirping early. Then, the next month they’re not doing so hot. So, I think this year I’m just going to keep my mouth shut and let them do the talking.”

His self-imposed quiet period didn’t last too long though, as mere minutes after the Kings exited the ice today he was already telling other media members he thinks Toronto will finish in second place of the American League East and claim one of the Wild Card spots in the Major League Baseball playoffs next October.

He’s also going to be hat shopping again soon too.

“I only brought two Jays hats (with me to LA) because they got ruined in my bag last year,” said Doughty. “So I’m going to have to go out and get a few more as back-up.”

Believe it or not, we did have time to talk a little hockey with Doughty today as well…

If you were away from hockey during the lockout, do yourself a favor and give a listen to when Doughty called in to the MayorsManor show a few months ago (link here).  There were plenty of laughs shared, mainly involving his teammates.
