Fight Club: three Kings vs three Coyotes

Usually when two division rivals meet up there’s a good chance for some fireworks. Over the course of their six-game series during the regular season last year, it’s fair to say the LA Kings and Phoenix Coyotes didn’t disappoint.

Each team won half the games – with three shutouts and the other three all decided by one goal.

Yet, the most spirited of the contests was probably the game on February 16th at Staples Center, when three fights broke out in the first period. Take a look…

Shane Doan v Dustin Brown:

Martin Hanzal v Mike Richards:

Raffi Torres v Colin Fraser:

The Coyotes went on to win the Pacific Division.

Of course, this was all just a table setter for what was to come though.

Next up, we’ll start digging into the 2012 Western Conference Final.
