Even without a single NHL game played in Southern California since mid-June, it’s still been a pretty exciting year around MayorsManor. During the lockout we’ve brought you updates from around the globe – including conversations with Anze Kopitar about playing in Sweden, Dustin Brown in Switzerland, Alec Martinez from Finland, Jonathan Bernier from Germany, a slew of guys in Manchester (Jordan Nolan, Dwight King, Tyler Toffoli, Brandon Kozun, etc.), Kyle Clifford in Ontario, Trevor Lewis in Utah and the list keeps going.
We were also blessed with the title of Best Sports Blog in LA by the folks at LA Weekly back in September and we’re not done yet… we’re going out with a bang in 2012!
Yesterday afternoon the gang at Puck Daddy, the home for hockey on Yahoo Sports, named MayorsManor as the Blog of the Year. Their 2012 Awards article had this to say:
Blog of the Year
Mayor’s Manor, a Los Angeles Kings blog run by John Hoven. Obviously, this blog was helped by the Kings’ run to the Cup offering some choice topics on which to write, but Hoven has turned the Manor into a place for great original reporting on under-reported stories; as well as strong Kings fan community. The Mayor breaks transactions but also breaks some really interesting smaller stories – like the “Hollywood” sign people going after Jonathan Bernier’s mask. There’s video, podcasting, live radio … a fantastic source that might just be the thing to replace Rich Hammond’s day-to-day coverage of the Kings.
Of course, we’re honored and very appreciative of not only the continued recognition but most importantly the ongoing support from all the readers, twitter followers and facebook friends who keep coming back to the site everyday to get their hockey fix.
Thanks to Greg Wyshynski, Sean Leahy, Harrison Mooney and the staff at Yahoo’s Puck Daddy for this great honor…and thanks to all the team personnel, agents and players who we work with on a daily basis.
We certainly hope that everybody has a safe and happy New Year’s Eve.
Before you run out to celebrate tonight though, be sure to read the rest of their 2012 Awards article, as there were many LA Kings connections – including items on Drew Doughty, Anze Kopitar, Dean Lombardi, Dustin Penner and Jonathan Quick.
