Highlights and interviews from Monarchs 3-0 def of Bruins

LA Kings 2012 first round draft pick Tanner Pearson seems to be adjusting just fine to his rookie season in the AHL so far. Playing with a 1-0 lead Saturday night vs the Providence Bruins, Pearson found the back of the net seven minutes into the third – extending the Monarchs lead to 2-0.  It was his third goal of the season.

Assisting on the effort were Thomas Hickey and Slava Voynov.  The Russian defenseman also had an assist on Andrei Loktionov’s short-handed goal in the first period,

Manchester’s third and final tally of the night was an empty netter scored by Dwight King – his first marker though since signing with the team seven games ago. Brandon Kozun assisted on the goal, extending his team points lead and giving him at least one point in nine of the Monarchs 11 games.

Here’s some highlights, followed by interviews with coach Mark Morris, goalie Martin Jones (who earned the shutout) and the debuting Vincent LoVerde (who was just signed from the Ontario Reign)…

Other game notes:

– Jones now has six wins on the season, three of them have been shutouts (tied for tops in the AHL).

– Manchester was 0-for-7 on the power play. Providence also went 0-for-7 with the man advantage.

– The Monarchs have four shorthanded goals this season, Loktionov has two of them.

Next up for the Monarchs are the Adirondack Phantoms on Wednesday. That should be an interesting one, as the Philadelphia Flyers affiliate club is led by former Kings coach Terry Murray and features former number one prospect, Brayden Schenn.
