Kings half way home – defeat Blues in round two

MayorsManor LA Kings PlayoffsWe tweeted some live notes and quotes from the Kings locker room and the press conferences from coach Darryl Sutter and Ken Hitchcock. Now, here are some extended comments from Dustin Brown, Jonathan Quick and Sutter…

Brown on the overall game – “We didn’t have the offensive attack that we wanted in the second [period] and they were all over us. We found a way to bend but not break and that is something that this team hasn’t relied on, but learned how to do that when we need to. We regrouped coming in here and it was back-and-forth in the third [period], but we found a way.”

Brown on closing out the series at home – “There are multiple advantages from a rest standpoint. Obviously it’s huge not having to get back on a plane and playing our Game 5. I can only imagine how happy Kings fans are right now; they’ve been through a rough stretch. To win on home ice is huge for everyone is this room, but it was nice to see the fans get jacked up as much as they could; they haven’t has an opportunity to celebrate that yet at home.”

Quick on moving on to the third round – “I haven’t put much thought into it yet obviously, just kind of enjoying this victory right now. I’ll enjoy it for the night and tomorrow wake up and start getting prepared for the next game.”

Quick on the level of fun right now – “It’s the time of the year when you have to enjoy hockey. It’s the time of the year when you don’t know if you are going to have another game, so you just try to enjoy ever day and try to enjoy the game as much as you can.”

Quick on the Kings getting their first sweep in team history – “You heard the rink today, how loud it was. It means a lot more to them [the fans] than it does to us. Obviously, it’s a great deal, a big push, by us to win four in a row against a team like that. They were great all series long and it was a hard fought four games here. But you heard the fans, how loud they were the last two minutes there; it gives you goose bumps.”

Sutter on the overall game – “I think you need great goaltending to win every game that you play in the playoffs.”

Sutter on Brown – “I think it was fitting he scored the winner.”

Sutter on the adjustments made after the second period – “Each period is a game into itself, right? So if you can do some of things you were doing at the start of each period then that’s what you try to do at the start of the third period.”
