Contest: First Goal – 4/20/2012 games and leaderboard

April 20, 2012 By John Hoven

NHL playoffs 2012If you’d like to to win a stick or jersey signed by the entire LA Kings team, then this article is for you!  As announced over the weekend, we’re running a playoff-long First Goal Contest.  It’s slightly different than the contest we run exclusively during Kings games, so please READ CAREFULLY.

The traditional MayorsManor First Goal Contest will continue – where throughout LA’s first round series vs. Vancouver, if you correctly guess the Kings player who scores first, you could win an autographed puck from Dustin Brown. Entries for that contest are accepted in a different article (see here for the game four post as an example).

Below, you’ll find all the information on our ongoing PLAYOFF contest:

This edition of the First Goal Game will run through the remainder of the NHL Playoffs and here’s how it works… Each morning we’ll post the games scheduled for that particular day. Your job is to guess who will score the first goal in each game, not for each team. However, to make things a little easier, you can take a player from BOTH teams.

For example, here’s what an entry would look like for the games scheduled today, Friday 4/20/2012:

Philadelphia (Simmonds) at Pittsburgh (Malkin)
Detroit (Datsyuk) at Nashville (Weber)

The maximum number of correct entries today would be two, one for each game. Again, you’re trying to pick the first goal in the GAME.

We’ll track the number of correct entries and post a weekly leader board.  The MayorsManor reader with the most correct submissions at the end of the NHL playoffs will win their choice of an LA Kings team signed jersey or stick!

Here’s a quick look at how things are going so far:

STEVE – 5 correct entries

CHELSEA – 4 correct entries

EIGHT PEOPLE TIED – 3 correct entries

Because nobody has jumped out to a huge lead yet, you still have a great chance to win!

Simply enter below to get started now.

I have a question for you. I have been keep track of my first goals. And I have four correct answers. But you only have one person with 4. Did you decided not to count one of mine. I have Datsyuk for Detroit, Torres for Phoenix, Kopitar for LA, and Thornton for San Jose. Just checking thanks. Let me know.

It’s first goal of the game, not first goal by each team. You just get to guess a guy from either team.

So in the SJ/STL the correct answer was BJ Crombeen not Thornton, even though Thornton scored first for SJ, he did NOT score first in the game. Crombeen did.
