…And Now You’re Caught Up – Deadline Edition

Although this format is usually used for a weekly look at ten Kings-related news items you may have missed, this week it’s a special edition – all about what went down on Monday’s NHL Trade Deadline.

Here are links to some commentaries, videos and stories you may want to check out…

* Trade Call – this is video of the actual trade call between the NHL, Los Angeles Kings and Edmonton Oilers. You hear exactly what was said by both teams regarding the deal. It’s about as ‘behind the curtain’ as you’re ever going to get – unless you’re Jeff Solomon (VP Hockey Operations), who is representing the team on the call.

* Welcome to LA: 10 Tidbits on Dustin Penner – this style of article is a favorite of MayorsManor readers and you’ll see why, as we give you the things you need to know about LA’s newest left winger.

* The other significant move – maybe even more impactful in the long run – was the signing of right wing Justin Williams to a four-year contract extension.  He’s having a very productive season and certainly would have been a hot property come July 1st.  In this video he explains his loyalty to the Kings.

* Video of Dean Lombardi in the locker room at the Kings training facility in El Segundo – talking the trade for Penner and signing of Mitchell.  Later in the day he gave a similar interview on the NHL Network – again talking the trade and signing.

* Video of Dustin Penner from his goodbye press conference in Edmonton

* Yahoo’s Puck Daddy rated the trade Three Milburys (defined as “A clear winner in a deal at the time of the trade. Someone got a little too desperate, or someone just got hosed.) – article here

* Video of coach Terry Murray on NHL Live radio

* Jack Johnson vs. Dustin Penner fight video from April 2009 in Edmonton (courtesy of hockeyfights.com)
* Video of Dustin Penner’s first interview in LA, with Heidi Androl at TSC

* Sent to Edmonton in the deal for Penner was former first round draft pick Colten Teubert.  He stopped by MayorsManor when he was playing in Ontario (ECHL playoffs).  Check out what he had to say about the Kings back then.

If you just can’t get enough Kings-Oilers talk, check out this article from last month:

Ryan Report – Smyth Passing 99 vs. Oilers – notes and quotes on the milestone game

I’ll have more from Penner’s first practice with the Kings on Wednesday afternoon.
